i had eye surgery two weeks ago today… they are doing really well, but are still totally dry, irritated and scratchy. general uncomfortableness has taken over. the computer is a bit of a difficulty, which is too bad since it’s my work and my school… oh well. it should be much better in about two weeks they say. here’s hoping! can’t really blog much….must go put eye drops in…
i’ve changed the appearance of the place…just changed the theme to another custom header design from wordpress. this might happen several times over the next while until i find one that i like…
and now i can’t get my custom image to upload. ARGH.
oh…there it is…

2008 was a pretty good year, I must say.
Looking back over it all I’ve been pretty successful in everything – school, work, personally and on the hobby front as well.
I passed 2 courses, failed 1, am still waiting to hear on the 4th (fingers crossed…tightly) and managed to get 91% on my first business case (woo!). I managed to convince my company to demote me to a more applicable level (which sounds backwards but the stress relief was so very worth it) plus I managed to get a big raise out of it which is always good (and again, seems backwards, but like I said it was for the best). And then of course there was the engagement. Which of course was probably the highlight even though it happened in the final week of the year and still feels a bit surreal… (as my friend Peter said to me today: Happy New Year and I hope you have a better year this year what with that engagement that happened last year and all.)
We took a bunch of fun trips: marble mountain in February, Champney’s in May, Minchin Cove in July, Champney’s – Lumsden and Gros Morne in September and of course Colinet for New Year’s eve. I’ve been lucky to see some really incredible spots in this province during the last 12 months and I look forward to more exploration adventures in 2009.

On the hobby front, I took a weaving course and made a scarf (still need to sew in the ends and wash it…and that was from the summer…whoops. Plus, I finished 10 knitted items (according to ravelry) – that total includes 16 mini sweaters plus about 15 korknisse….and two sets of 5 finger puppets each.) – there are also 3 pairs of socks in there, which for me is a LOT of knitting. i’m hoping this year to get more like, 7 pairs of socks for the year PLUS a sweater (really simple pattern and i already have the yarn), a STACK of knit dishclothes – basically I want to demolish my stash of kitchen cotton, plus finish a crochet granny square afghan that I’ve already started to use up all my gross acrylic and random yarn ends. I’m sure there will be some more korknisse in there as gifts for next year, plus some sweaters for ornaments…
So… yes, all in all a really good year. Can’t wait to see what 2009 might bring!

well…i didn’t use the essence of evil incarnate (white granulated sugar) in my coffee today – i used honey instead. i’m pretty sure that was significantly offset by the 5 ferrero rocher’s though…

i am totally addicted to sugar. i realize it now only because i’m lethargic all the time, soft in all the wrong places, did i mention sleepy? i’m totally on a sugar-down right now. it’s terrible. ugh. makes me feel really…bleh.
i also feel like i’m getting the flu, which doesn’t help! and which maybe contributes to the sleepy feeling, but honestly, i would just be using that as an excuse.
sugar is evil.

i went out briefly today to pick up one more smallish gift for the better half. of course, i should have realized that if i’ve left it to the last minute i’m not going to find what i’m looking for. that’s just how the shopping gods look on me – with excitement and giddiness at my lack of planning and complete lack of a Plan B. so i ended up buying something that i’m sure will be returned, but i figure it was better than a gift card.
ugh.

for some reason, i find this totally enthralling. a great tune, italian, and it came out in 1973 or something… they knew how to rock. for some reason i feel like paula might like this one… it’s all gibberish, made up italian, purposefully meaning nothing and yet… can’t. stop. dancing.

hello, we like to rock out on gingerbread beach!
It feels as though each day is a struggle now. I haul out of bed and can turn one of two ways – either towards the home study to poke my head in a book and lose myself to the intricacies of financial accounting, or towards the door where I can go out and make a living involving the intricacies of financial accounting. Sadly, the only place I really want to be is nestled on the couch, knitting in hand, watching the snow and sleet bash against the windows.
On a happier note, I’ve completed a stack of Christmas knitting! Only one item for someone else, the rest is decorations like korknisse and my Merry Christmas sweater garland (I am SO sick of knitting little sweaters – only the seaming is left…a lot of little seams). I have about 15 more korknisse to go (and I don’t have 15 corks – better get drinking!). I need to knit a bunch of finger puppets – barnyard animals I think – and i want to try some stuffed toys. I don’t know if that’s realistic to try for all that before Christmas though! We’ll see…yes, we shall see…

with bells and ribbon - all ready for the tree!

testing. one two. check check.
ahem.
so, the new blog is up. gotta love blog sites that do it all for you. click click click, peruse pics, and done.
if you followed me through the old blog then, hello again. the old blog was… i don’t know. old? it was from a different part of my life. and i’m just moving on and starting over and leaving it behind. i started it when i moved out here, to newfoundland. tracked my way across the country, through a summer in vermont and then setting up the first year here. and now, i’m here, i’m settled, i’m happy… and it just felt necessary to start fresh.
too busy now to really start posting…
ok, for now, it’s back to the books. i will leave my korknisse to guard the blog:
